At Telefónica Tech we are participating as technology partner of the joint venture formed by Ferrovial Energía and Endesa in the project to digitise public lighting in the municipality of Burriana (Valencia). Through this initiative, we have implemented our smart lighting solution to improve the operational, energy and environmental efficiency of the city’s lighting infrastructure.

As part of the project, we have deployed more than 6,300 nodes designed and manufactured by Tellink and equipped with NB-IoT connectivity, installed on streetlights across the municipality. This technology enables large-scale deployments and provides connectivity even in hard-to-reach areas, allowing data from each lighting point to be sent to a platform for monitoring and remote control.

With this solution, the consortium can remotely manage each LED streetlight individually, optimising its operation, performance and maintenance. It also allows the light intensity of each luminaire to be adjusted according to real needs, avoiding unnecessary maximum lighting in low-traffic areas or increasing brightness during events with large crowds.

The digitisation of public lighting also enables energy consumption monitoring and predictive maintenance, as the system can detect potential faults or failures remotely before they affect the service provided to citizens.

The project also contributes to improve the municipality’s sustainability and citizens’ quality of life, as adaptive lighting increases urban safety while reducing light pollution, energy consumption and the municipality’s carbon footprint.

Through initiatives such as this, at Telefónica Tech we continue to promote IoT solutions that help cities manage their infrastructures in a more efficient, sustainable and intelligent way.
