At Telefónica, we have integrated OpenGate, the monitoring platform developed by Amplía, into Madrileña Red de Gas's systems to enable remote meter readings and data management. As part of this project, we have upgraded the gas distributor's technology infrastructure to manage communications with its industrial meters and prepare for the future digitalisation of its residential meter network.

The solution brings meters from different manufacturers and using different communication protocols under a single remote management architecture. Once deployed, it will enable the distributor to collect and validate consumption readings, monitor meter status and manage data exchange with its corporate systems. It also incorporates advanced analytics capabilities to perform the energy calculations required by the gas market.

This data will help the distributor gain greater visibility into consumption and detect potential leaks or anomalies. The platform will also support safety functions, including shutting off or disconnecting the gas supply in the event of faults or anomalies in the infrastructure.

For industrial and commercial users, continuous monitoring will help optimise operations and identify irregularities. The platform is designed to integrate with other systems, helping to anticipate peaks in consumption and improve energy balancing. It can also generate alerts to support predictive maintenance. For businesses operating across multiple sites, centralised data will make it easier to compare consumption levels and manage them more effectively.

For residential customers, future automated meter readings will reduce the need for on-site visits and support billing based on actual consumption. Through this project, we are applying our expertise in technology integration and data management to the digitalisation of gas networks.
