At Telefónica Tech, we have launched a self-sovereign identity solution based on verifiable credentials, aimed at helping companies and public organisations comply with the new European legal and technical framework. This framework is exemplified by the EUDI Wallet, set to take effect across member states by the end of 2026.
Our solution allows users to manage and share their personal information securely, privately, and selectively, by storing verifiable credentials on their own devices. These credentials may include personal data, IDs, certifications, or access permissions. Users decide what information to share, with whom, and when.
At the same time, organisations can issue, verify, and revoke digital credentials efficiently, ensuring interoperability and regulatory compliance. For instance, a local council can issue a residence certificate as a verifiable credential instead of a traditional PDF, enabling the citizen to share it from their device.
We complement this solution with professional services and our TrustOS blockchain platform, enhancing the traceability and transparency of who issued the credential, when, and whether it is still valid.
Key use cases include age verification, access management, issuing digital certificates, and online fraud prevention, always offering a more secure and agile experience for users.
