Telefónica Tech is participating in the roll-out of a pilot scheme led by the Government of Aragón to assess how Artificial Intelligence can help improve the diagnosis of dermatological conditions in both primary care and hospital settings. The project forms part of the digital transformation strategy for the Aragonese healthcare system and incorporates Artificial Intelligence technology developed by Legit.Health.

The tool enables healthcare professionals to analyse clinical images, automatically assess their quality, and therefore obtain differential diagnoses and estimate the severity of around 300 dermatological conditions, including chronic diseases and benign and malignant lesions. It also incorporates an algorithm that automatically verifies the quality of the images to ensure they are suitable for clinical analysis.

The solution, which is certified as a medical device with CE marking, has already been implemented in the dermatology departments of the Miguel Servet University Hospital and the Lozano Blesa University Clinical Hospital, as well as in the health centres in La Almozara, San José Centro, Miralbueno and Tauste. Healthcare professionals will receive training and ongoing support during this first phase to facilitate their integration into care pathways and to assess how well these are being adopted in daily clinical practice.

The use of the tool will be monitored over the coming months, and its clinical impact will be analysed. The results will provide evidence of the value that Artificial Intelligence can bring to improving professionals’ diagnostic capabilities, optimising the prioritisation of care and moving towards a more efficient and digital healthcare system.
