We connect over 70% of DGT-certified V-16 beacons

At Telefónica Tech, we continue to drive smart and safe mobility. We currently provide IoT connectivity to over 70% of the DGT-certified V-16 warning beacons that will replace traditional emergency triangles on Spanish roads from January 1, 2026.

We have signed agreements with more than 30 beacon manufacturers, offering nationwide coverage through our Kite platform and IoT Data Ready service, ensuring secure data transmission with minimal battery consumption. These beacons send anonymous geolocation data to the DGT, enabling smarter traffic management and improving road safety.

Our innovation lab, The ThinX, is available to beacon manufacturers as a co-creation space to test and validate devices before mass deployment. We also offer full support for electronic design, including our PCB and customizable beacon units, tailored to each client's project needs.

Additionally, the V-16 beacon with Telefónica Tech technology is available in Spain through Movistar stores, online and other channels, and includes a 12-year SIM card at no extra cost. Once activated, the device connects to the DGT 3.0 platform and emits a flashing light, enhancing safety without requiring the driver to leave the vehicle.
