Telefónica Tech and IBM sign a collaboration agreement for quantum-safe technology

We have signed a collaboration agreement with IBM to integrate their 'quantum safe' technology into our cybersecurity services. The goal is to anticipate the risks associated with quantum computers advancement.

Although there is not yet a quantum computer that poses a cryptographic threat, quantum computing can compromise data security by making traditional encryption algorithms vulnerable. Additionally, cybercriminals could be collecting data now to decrypt it in the future.

The agreement with IBM includes the deployment of their technological infrastructure at our headquarters in Madrid. Both companies will work together to combine IBM's quantum safe technology with Telefónica Tech's cybersecurity expertise to develop solutions that protect organizations' critical data from vulnerabilities arising from future quantum computing.

These solutions will be based on the new post-quantum cryptography standards defined by NIST in the United States. IBM has participated in the development of two of the three algorithms published as post-quantum cryptography standards, contributing to data protection in the quantum era.
