Mobility analysis of the final stage of La Vuelta 24 thanks to Smart Steps by Telefónica Tech

At Telefónica Tech, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of mobility during the final stage of La Vuelta 24 with our Smart Steps platform.

This individual time trial of 24.6 km, held on Sunday, September 8, in Madrid, started at Distrito Telefónica and ended at our company’s iconic building on Gran Vía. Coinciding with Telefónica’s centennial celebration, this final stage, known as the 'Telefónica Stage', attracted a significant number of attendees and fans.

Thanks to our Smart Steps platform, which uses anonymized and aggregated data from millions of mobile lines, we extracted multiple insights compiled in an exclusive event report.

In addition to the large concentration of the public at both Distrito Telefónica and the Gran Vía area, several key data points and trends stand out:

  • During the day, nearly 9,000 people gathered around Distrito Telefónica to witness the start, doubling the usual number of attendees in this area. Meanwhile, the Gran Vía area saw 69,400 visitors, 30% more compared to a typical Sunday.
  • There was a significant increase in international visitors, especially towards the final stage. Specifically, 24% of attendees in the Gran Vía area were from abroad, highlighting the event’s tourist appeal. However, this figure dropped to 9% in the Distrito Telefónica area.

These are just a few of the many insights captured in our report, thanks to the Smart Steps tool. Our platform provides a detailed, real-time analysis of mobility patterns, offering various benefits, for both businesses across different sectors and public administrations, seeking to make data-driven decisions: from optimizing planning to more efficient resource management.
