Telefónica remains the market leader in Spain with nearly 26 million IoT lines

We closed the first half of 2026 by consolidating our leadership in the Spanish IoT market after reaching nearly 26 million connected devices (25.8 million). This represents year-on-year growth of 197.9 per cent, driven by the roll-out of new projects and the addition of six million lines so far this year.

This progress reflects the momentum behind the digitalisation of physical infrastructure and services in strategic sectors, covering use cases such as smart remote meter reading for water and gas in the utilities sector, public lighting connected via NB-IoT, and efficient connectivity in buildings and mobility.

At Telefónica Tech, we are driving this growth with advanced solutions such as Kite, our platform for the remote, centralised and secure management of IoT connectivity using artificial intelligence, and with new capabilities such as the new eSIM based on the SGP.32 standard, developed in partnership with Thales.
