At Telefónica Tech, we are leading the digital transformation of the urban water cycle in Spain by connecting over 1.5 million smart meters. Through our technology and services, we are supporting the digitalisation of a key sector for sustainability, enhancing efficiency and encouraging more responsible water use.

Using our NB-IoT connectivity, we are deploying and managing over 570,000 individual meters and more than 101,700 awarded hubs, each of which connects an average of ten additional devices. This technology offers low energy consumption, deep signal penetration and long battery life, enabling smart meters to operate for more than twelve years, even in hard-to-reach locations.

We provide a comprehensive end-to-end solution that goes beyond connectivity. Our technology offering includes IoT platforms for remote device management, AI-powered analytics to detect unusual consumption patterns, digital twins for predictive maintenance, and data lakes to monitor water activity in real time.

Water digitalisation delivers tangible benefits to both utilities and citizens, including early detection of leaks, control of unauthorised consumption, accurate billing, and reduced emissions by eliminating the need for manual readings.
