Telefónica Tech is collaborating with Aguas de Cádiz to digitalise more than 4,000 water meters to advance the digital transformation of its supply network. The project is supported by our Smart Water Management solution, based on NB-IoT technology, and is part of the WATERCOG-PC programme for the modernisation of the urban water cycle, financed with European NextGeneration EU funds. Our solution enables the automatic and continuous transmission of consumption data to a remote management platform, with low energy consumption that guarantees a battery life of at least 12 years, even in hard-to-reach locations. We also work with the manufacturer Contazara to provide hourly readings that improve billing accuracy and enable early detection of leaks, infrastructure failures, or abnormal consumption.

Highlights of the success story

Remote, real-time consumption management

Acces to hourly meter readings for continuous monitoring and more efficient water management.

More accurate and transparent billing

Automatic readings replace bi-monthly or quarterly estimates, improving billing accuracy.

Sustainability and energy efficiency

Reduced energy consumption and emissions thanks to long-life batteries and the elimination of physical travel.

Early detection of leaks and anomalies

Proactive identification of leaks, network failures, and unusual consumption to reduce water losses.

Reliable connectivity in any environment

NB-IoT technology with high signal penetration, even in underground or hard-to-reach locations.

What they say about us

“Initially, meters in a specific neighbourhood will be replaced as a pilot project, in addition to those in homeowners' associations and some public services, especially those used for watering parks and gardens. At the same time, the company's operations are being transformed, which will enable it to handle the large volume of data from both sensor devices and remote management meters that will provide hourly consumption data. Once this pilot project has been evaluated and adapted, the replacement of all meters in the city will continue progressively and in phases”.
