Automation and digitalisation are now key drivers for improving efficiency and competitiveness in industry. We spoke with Mario Mariategui, Head of Automation at Pfizer’s plant in San Sebastián de los Reyes, in a new episode of Telefónica’s B2B Sales Podcast. We discussed the best way to take a practical, value-centred approach to these processes, one that is aligned with the business’s real needs.
In his experience, digital transformation must always start with an analysis of processes and the impact they can have. It is not about digitalising for the sake of it, but about identifying those initiatives that truly eliminate low-value tasks and enable operations to be optimised. Small-scale automation or well-defined adjustments can often make a real difference to day-to-day operations at the plant.
We also discussed the role of the human factor as a key element of success. Managing change, involving teams from the outset and explaining how technology can make their work easier are essential for overcoming resistance and fears. Automation means helping people to focus on higher-value activities.
We concluded by discussing the potential of artificial intelligence and the importance of applying it judiciously, as well as the value of having technology partners who support organisations in defining their digital roadmap. A collaboration based on process knowledge and a clear vision of the return on investment enables progress towards a more efficient, flexible, and competitive industry.
