Two technicians install Telefónica NB-IoT connectivity nodes to digitalise Santa Pola’s street lighting.

We are announcing today the deployment of our smart street lighting solution in Santa Pola to digitalise around 6,300 streetlights across the municipality and enable their real-time remote management. As technology partners of the joint venture formed by Ferrovial Energía and Iberdrola Clientes, we are providing the technology needed for more efficient, flexible and sustainable urban lighting management.

To make this project possible, we have deployed nearly 6,300 nodes with NB-IoT connectivity together with the Spanish manufacturer Tellink. This infrastructure enables the collection and transmission of real-time data, even from hard-to-reach locations, to centralised monitoring and remote-control platforms. Thanks to this connectivity, the streetlights can be managed individually and adapted to real-time operational requirements.

Our solution enables lighting levels to be operated, maintained and adjusted dynamically, adapting street lighting to the specific circumstances of each area. This makes it possible to reduce lighting in areas with low footfall or increase it during events with high visitor numbers, thereby optimising energy consumption.

In addition to improving operational efficiency, we are helping to create a more sustainable urban model that is respectful of the environment. The solution detects potential incidents in advance, streamlines maintenance activities and improves service quality for residents. At the same time, it helps reduce light pollution, energy consumption and the municipality’s carbon footprint.

Through this project we are reinforcing our commitment to connecting assets and infrastructure to help public administrations make data-driven decisions and move towards more efficient, personalised, agile and sustainable public services.
