The University of Vigo aimed to promote excellence in technological research and validate future communications standards prior to their commercial adoption. To this end, it entrusted Telefónica with the deployment of a pioneering experimental private network on its campus.

The project represents an international milestone as it is one of the largest-scale deployments of millimetre-wave technology in educational settings, supported by a flexible, high-speed connectivity infrastructure.

The new architecture enables data to be processed immediately on campus. This ‘living lab’ is used to securely validate critical and highly demanding use cases, such as the remote control of autonomous vehicles, robots, and drones.
