The Vithas Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to research, training, and teaching in the medical and social-health fields, is part of the Vithas healthcare group, which operates more than 20 hospitals and nearly 40 medical centers.

To manage this extensive network, Telefónica Tech has supported them in implementing a data lake that centralizes information and serves as the primary data source for their data ecosystem, driving research, improving medical care, and optimizing the use of healthcare resources.

In addition, we are developing specific use cases, such as monitoring antibiotic usage, optimizing the identification of patients eligible for clinical trials, and evaluating high-impact pharmacological treatments. The goal is to generate valuable insights that can be shared and leveraged across different areas of the healthcare group.

Use Case Highlights

Support for collaboration and health research

The data space facilitates uniform access to anonymised clinical data across the entire network, enabling hospitals, research centres and other stakeholders to collaborate in order to promote clinical trials, optimise treatments and improve patient care across the entire healthcare group.

Interoperability and regulatory compliance in the healthcare sector

The solution ensures compatibility and interoperability with multiple systems and technologies, aligning with the European Data Strategy to ensure a consistent and reliable data environment.

Transformation of information into a standardised model

The use cases defined for Vithas are based on the OMOP standard, which facilitates the standardisation of all clinical information, with a view to facilitating its integration and reuse at European level.

Security, privacy, and data governance

The data processed will be anonymised, implementing advanced security measures to protect patient information and ensure that its handling complies with all relevant regulations. Likewise, in order for a person or entity to join the data space, they must first be approved as a participant, to ensure rigorous control over who uses the information and to guarantee a secure and governed environment.
