The multicloud approach consists of an organisation using cloud services from different providers at the same time. Instead of relying on a single provider, it combines multiple hyperscaler public clouds—large-scale infrastructures capable of delivering virtually unlimited resources on demand.
Multicloud provides greater flexibility and avoids the risk of dependency on a single provider (vendor lock-in). It enables cost optimisation, access to specialised services from each cloud, and the design of more robust resilience strategies. In addition, it supports regulatory compliance by allowing organisations to choose data locations according to their specific requirements.
Although they are sometimes confused, they are different approaches:
Both strategies can coexist and complement each other within an advanced cloud architecture.
