Telefónica Tech analyzes La Vuelta’s impact with Smart Steps to support event management and deliver value in each territory

At Telefónica, we are playing a key role in La Vuelta '25, the edition with the highest connectivity demands in its history, covering more than 3,100 kilometres across Spain and four stages in Italy. We have deployed our technological capabilities to provide secure, stable, real-time communications in diverse environments, including mountain passes, rural towns, and major cities.

More than 200 of our technicians will support the network infrastructure, backed by three 4G/5G Mobile Units at key stages and a comprehensive reinforcement of coverage along the entire route. As part of this deployment, at Telefónica Tech we will apply our big data platform Smart Steps in seven stages, which anonymously and aggregately analyses millions of mobile events using AI and advanced analytics.

Smart Steps by Telefónica Tech enables us to identify mobility patterns, estimate crowd flows, anticipate security needs, and scale access and infrastructure. In addition, it provides strategic insights into the race’s tourism and economic impact in each territory, helping us optimise both event management and the planning of future editions.

Since 2017, we have supported La Vuelta as a technology partner, helping to position this sporting event as a benchmark for innovation in connectivity, big data, and real-time analytics applied to professional sports.
