Thanks to IoT technology and data analytics, it is possible to know how full the containers are and to organise the most efficient collection route accordingly. Optimising waste collection routes and waste management is a challenge for smart cities. This is due to the fact that sometimes unnecessary collection routes are taken because the level of each container is not known. This leads to higher fuel costs for collection trucks and a higher carbon footprint.
The greater the number of waste, the greater the number of collection transports on the streets of the city, and the larger they are, generating unpleasant situations (traffic problems, bad smells, bad image, etc).
