In 2024, together with Cetaqua, we launched a project to analyze mobility data and visitor behaviour in Benidorm, a city that multiplies its population in summer and faces strong pressure on its infrastructure. The aim was to explore how mobile data can provide strategic insights to optimize water management and other essential resources. We used Smart Steps, our platform offering aggregated and anonymized Telco data.
Accurate, up-to-date tourism information is key to anticipating demand and planning efficiently. In Benidorm, it helps adjust water supply, improve waste management and strengthen other critical services.
The project focused on understanding tourist profiles, analysing the link between tourism and water use, supporting smart urban planning and promoting more sustainable resource management. It delivered two outputs: detailed datasets for advanced studies and an interactive visual tool for dynamic exploration.
