When the Provincial Council of Granada decided to upgrade its IT infrastructure, they were looking for a solution capable of serving both the institution itself and the 174 municipalities under its jurisdiction. The challenge was to replace a legacy infrastructure with a modern, scalable platform distributed across two data centres, whilst ensuring the continuity of public services at all times.

Telefónica designed, deployed, and evolved a private cloud architecture based on Nutanix technology. We selected this technology for its hardware flexibility, centralised management model, and its 100% software-based architecture.

The project was carried out in several phases, incorporating advanced capabilities in virtualisation, distributed storage, integrated backup, cross-data centre replication, and unified management of the entire platform.

The result is a robust infrastructure, ready to grow progressively and capable of supporting the digital services of one of Andalusia’s leading public administrations. More than five years on, the project continues to expand to meet new technological and business needs.

Use case highlights

We modernised critical infrastructure for public services

We upgraded a technology platform based on traditional environments using a next-generation hyper-converged architecture, improving the Provincial Council’s performance, availability, and operational efficiency.

We increased resilience and business continuity

The new architecture incorporates native replication capabilities, data protection and disaster recovery across data centres, strengthening the availability of critical services.

We ensured stable and reliable operation

The solution has operated stably throughout the project’s lifetime, with no significant incidents during the deployment and operational phases, thereby strengthening the customer’s trust in Telefónica Tech as a technology partner.

We simplified the management of IT environments

We have implemented a centralised management platform that makes it easier to manage the infrastructure, reducing operational complexity and making the IT team’s tasks easier.

We created a scalable, future-proof technological foundation

We designed a platform capable of growing in line with increasing capacity and performance requirements, enabling the Provincial Council to continue developing its digital services.

A project to build a private, flexible, robust, and efficient IT infrastructure

This successful project involved overhauling the entire IT infrastructure of an organisation with over a thousand corporate users, without any downtime that would have resulted in a significant disruption to the availability of digital services. It is a demanding task with multiple potential points of failure, but this project has been successfully completed thanks to the support of Telefónica and the technology chosen.
