Deoleo, a global leader in the olive oil sector, has developed, in partnership with Telefónica, a digital transformation process aimed at optimising its value chain, improving decision-making and accelerating innovation. In an increasingly demanding environment, the company has embraced advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and industrial digitalisation.

The first project enhanced the blockchain-based bottle traceability system already in place at the company, improving the transparency and reliability of information throughout the entire value chain and strengthening consumer confidence.

The second initiative, led by Geprom, our unit specialising in industrial digitalisation, involved the implementation of the EMI Suite 4.0 platform at the Alcolea plant to improve asset management and maintenance. The solution integrates IT/OT systems, automates processes using SAP and MES and, together with analytics in Power BI, helps to reduce unplanned downtime and move towards a predictive maintenance model.

Finally, more than 15 use cases for AI were identified and prioritised across areas of the company such as demand, procurement, quality, marketing and pricing. Following an evaluation process based on their business impact and technical feasibility, one standout initiative was the optimisation of blending in production through advanced analytics, capable of recommending the optimal combination of raw materials based on variables such as cost, quality, available stock and operational constraints.

Case Study Highlights

Boosting consumer confidence

Advanced traceability enables the provision of verifiable product information, enhancing perceptions of quality, authenticity and commitment to sustainability.

Greater visibility and control over industrial assets

Structured monitoring of equipment and assets facilitates more agile decision-making, improves operational availability and lays the foundations for moving towards predictive models.

Production cost efficiency

Smart decision optimisation facilitates a more efficient use of raw materials, reducing production costs and helping to improve the company’s profitability and competitiveness.

Improved product margin and consistency

Decisions are aligned with multiple business objectives, balancing quality, costs and supply commitments to ensure consistent products and a higher operating margin.

Centralised and efficient maintenance management

The digitalisation of maintenance enables assets, spare parts and operations to be integrated into a single platform, optimising planning and the use of resources.

Structured roadmap for AI adoption

The project provides a clear, prioritised overview of high-impact initiatives, enabling Deoleo to progress with AI adoption in an orderly, scalable manner that is aligned with its business objectives.

Optimisation of inventory usage

The integration of availability and stock variables facilitates better planning, preventing operational incidents and reducing last-minute adjustments to production.
