Future Workplace: Three must-have services
Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have had to adapt to a new reality and a new way of working in companies. A new way of working based on Cloud, which allows resources to be securely available.
In addition, it seeks to simplify accessibility to data and facilitate the work of employees. This transformation also implies that companies are immersed in a constant cycle of change to maintain their competitiveness in the market.
Some of the services that support that digital acceleration are Future Workplace services, including:
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) solutions
In it, remote desktops are hosted on a server to be distributed according to the needs of end users so that they can access virtual desktops from any of their devices or location.
Main advantages of VDI
- Centralized management: deployment of new images, customized images, massive patching, etc.
- Increased accessibility: allows access to information and resources anywhere and from almost any device.
- Savings and cost reduction: hardware requirements are much lower.
- Security: since the information is stored in the cloud, the information is not compromised in case of theft or loss of the devices.
Basic concepts of a VDI
- Virtual machine: machines created through software where physical resources are shared, allowing greater flexibility and efficiency.
- Hypervisor or virtual machine monitor: software that allows the creation of virtual machines within a machine/pc. This also allows the use of several operating systems on the same machine.
- Connection Broker: software that enables the connection between end users and the server (installed on the hypervisor).
- Persistent desktop: one that maintains the customization of each desktop and when closed and reopened, has the same resources and components that have been configured as if it were a regular PC.
- Non-persistent or volatile desktop: one that each time a session is started on this type of desktop, it starts as a clean session without the resources of the previous session.

Mobile Device Management (MDM)
Since the first mobile phone appeared 40 years ago, it is a far cry from today's smartphones and how companies have invested in these and other devices to be able to provide their employees with an additional work tool.
In the much more recent past, other types of devices appeared, such as tablets, which are more comfortable than cell phones both for viewing and for their larger touch keyboard.
These devices went a step further when mobile device management was introduced, which allowed massive device management, separation of the business and personal parts, the choice of application installation taking into account this possible separation, easy deletion of information in the event of loss or theft of the device, backup copies, blocking of some functionalities…
In short, it provided the same advantages that have been sought in all Future Workplace solutions:
- Cost reduction.
- Ease of operation and management, increasing productivity.
- Increased security.
Teams
This Microsoft application with great versatility has several functionalities that allow and encourage collaborative work:
- Phone System/Voz365/Teams Phone. It is the solution used by Microsoft for calls in the cloud that allows a high degree of business customization for receiving or making calls through the PSTN, such as the configuration of functions such as boss/secretary, skip groups, call queues.
- Chats that allow agile and instant communication between collaborators. It is possible to work with a space for shared files.
- Creation of work groups in which information flows.
These, like so many other collaboration solutions, keep companies moving towards a digital transformation model and growing in the areas of Future Workplace, the future of the workplace.
